Arrest Mamdani—for what exactly?

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, reportedly declared that the person who should be arrested is not Benjamin Netanyahu, but Zohran Mamdani.

Arrest Mamdani—for what exactly?

For saying that international law should apply even to powerful leaders? For refusing to ignore an International Criminal Court warrant? Or for insisting that political influence should not place anyone above accountability?

Calling for the arrest of an elected American official simply because he says he would enforce the law is not a serious legal argument. It looks more like an attempt to intimidate and silence anyone willing to challenge Israel’s government.

Mamdani has not been accused of war crimes. He has not ordered bombings, displaced families, or blocked humanitarian aid. His supposed “crime” appears to be saying that Netanyahu should face the same legal standards as everyone else.

If demanding accountability is now considered arrest-worthy, then the real issue is not Mamdani. The real issue is how deeply some officials fear the law when it may finally apply to them.
