BREAKING🚨 Trump is rushing to carve a private road through Yosemite National Park for a Las Vegas developer and campaign donor.
This road was already rejected by three administrations and two federal courts.
Kingsbarn Realty Capital, run by CEO Jeff Pori, paid $4 million in 2024 for 83 undeveloped acres just outside Yosemite’s western boundary, about five miles from one of the park’s ancient sequoia groves, and marketed the land as “Sanctuary at Yosemite.”
Pori wants a private road connecting that property to one of Yosemite’s central thoroughfares. The land’s existing access road sits more than 10 miles from a park entrance. Without a new one, anyone staying at a hotel, resort or private home built there would have to drive an hour and a half around to reach Yosemite Valley.
The Park Service has refused this same request on this same land for more than two decades. The previous owner sued in 2007 to force a private road through, lost in district court, and lost again on appeal in 2012. Bush said no. Obama said no. Biden said no.
Since spring 2025, Park Service staff in California and Washington have been ordered to make the land exchange happen. They meet with Kingsbarn every few weeks. Pori sometimes brings Lanny Davis, a lobbyist whose past clients include Michael Cohen and Harvey Weinstein, and who has not listed Kingsbarn or Pori in his federal lobbying disclosures.
Staff must send progress updates to political appointees in Interior Secretary Doug Burgum’s office, and they have been berated for not moving fast enough.
“The political pressure being brought to bear is very unusual,” said one person familiar with the discussions.
Pori had no history of donating to national political campaigns before October 2024. From then into 2025 he made monthly donations to Trump’s campaign committee, the Republican Party and associated PACs.
On August 24, Trump promised to protect “every acre” of our National Parks.
