Two Eagles fans tied the knot in a tailgate wedding, with former player Jason Kelce taking part in the festivities — and the retired NFL star says the event was almost as “legendary” as his brother Travis Kelce and sister-in-law Taylor Swift’s star-studded nuptials.
Jason and Travis’ Garage Beer brand ran a contest for couples to win a Birds-themed wedding at the Eagles-Cowboys tailgate in Philadelphia on Monday, Oct. 26. The winning couple, Lindsey Carl and Brandon Byrd, tied the knot in Lot H outside Lincoln Financial Field before the Eagles faced off against the Dallas Cowboys.
Carl wore a white wedding dress with Eagles cowboy boots, and Byrd showed his team spirit by sporting a green suit, Eagles socks and a feather pinned to his jacket lapel, per videos shared on Instagram by TrueFan Travel, which organized the tailgate.
Carl walked down a green aisle, escorted by her father, and she and Byrd exchanged wedding rings gifted to them by jeweler Steven Singer. The Philly Pops performed before, during and after the ceremony, which was officiated by Phillies great Shane Victorino, per 6abc. After Byrd and Carl were officially declared husband and wife, they released white doves from a heart-shaped basket.
Jason Kelce and fellow former Eagles player Beau Allen made an appearance during the wedding to hand out cans of beer and congratulate the bride and groom. Garage Beer shared a photo of the newlyweds kissing on Instagram and wrote, “Tailgates are for lovers.”
Despite the Eagles suffering a disappointing 38-21 loss to the Cowboys, the newlyweds told NBC10 that their tailgate wedding was “unforgettable,” adding that the energy during the event was “insane.”
Jason, 38, later spoke about the wedding from the broadcast booth during ESPN’s Monday Night Football coverage. He said the ceremony was “incredible,” with Byrd and Carl saying “I do” joined by “Eagles fans galore.”
“It was probably the most legendary wedding I’ve been to this year,” Jason continued, before quickly adding, “I’m gonna walk that back. I’ll put it second.”
As for the first, Jason’s brother, Travis, 37, made headlines around the world when he married Swift, 36, in a star-studded wedding at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on July 3, with an estimated 1,000 guests in attendance.
Jason, who served as Travis’ best man, shared details about his brother’s wedding while chatting with his ESPN Monday Night Countdown co-hosts ahead of the Chiefs’ season opener against the Denver Broncos on Sept. 14. He said the guest list included “so many awesome people, obviously, all walks of life.”
“The football world, celebrity world, singers from Nashville, actors, actresses, people that we grew up with in Cleveland Heights, a melting pot of individuals,” he explained.
“And the ceremony was gorgeous,” he added. “They did such an incredible job. And then, from then on, it was a party.”
